Counselling
Counselling is a form of ‘talking therapy’ which focusses on creating a safe space for people to discuss the challenges they are facing, and to be supported towards making the changes they desire in their lives.
When people reach out for counselling they are often looking for someone to help them work out a way forward. I pride myself on bringing clarity and hope to each person who engages with me.
In working with clients, I focus on identifying and addressing underlying issues which are behind whatever pain the individual is experiencing. Many times, the matters people present in counselling are symptomatic of beliefs and patterns which can indeed be challenged and changed.
I believe a good counsellor forms a relationship with their clients where it is safe to challenge them, and where we find opportunities to enjoy the process together.
Clients say they experience me as warm, direct, challenging and supportive. See ‘Testimonials’.
I draw from a range of theoretical backgrounds in my work - including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focussed Therapy. I am a registered as a full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors, and abide by the association’s Code of Ethics in my work.
